This popular liner operated a monthly Transatlantic route from 1956 to 1973 with a turnaround at Port Everglades. She carried Europeans to Venezuela and Florida, and handled interport bookings as well. Decorated with murals, wood carvings of saints and paneling from the African colonies, the Santa Maria was sedate, conservative and elegant. Her claim to fame however was an infamous hijacking in 1961 to Brazil.
